Winter cuddles

The last few days it has been freezing. (Well for me at least).  I do get cold by just the mention of winter so by no means should you use my heat standards as the norm. When I schedule family shoots, it is always something to consider if we are shooting outdoors. No one wants to get sick after a photoshoot. So if you are hiding from the cold like me, perhaps consider a cosy indoor photo shoot with your family.

According to my google dictionary, cosy refers to warmth and a small space; “a cosy nook near the fire” or “snug in bed”.  So let’s get cosy. Let’s plan your winter photoshoot.

Planning your winter photoshoot

  • Combine warm colours rather than cool colours that will give a colder vibe.
  • Wear layers that you can peel off if you getting a bit warmer especially if you go outside.
  • Keep the kids moving – it will help to keep everyone warm.
  • Find a small but warm spot in or around your home or special location.
  • Embrace each other, kiss and hug. Not only will it keep you warm it will create beautiful meaningful moments between you and your family.
  • Add a familiar activity – could be reading a storybook or drinking coffee. It can be simple activities the family do every day, like bedtime antics.
  • Dress the part – not a lot of people are happy when they are freeing.
  • Consider something new and exciting like a walk in the CBD.
  • Shave and a haircut! For a creative family, photo shoot march your matching outfits to a fun venue like a barbershop.
  • Combine textures – it creates beautiful images.
  • Brake the rules, like for example, jump on the bed or host a tickle party in the kitchen.

Items that come in handy during your shoot

  • Blankets are great for adding textures, keeping you warm and adding a splash of colour to your colour pallet.
  • Tissues to keep those little noses from running away.
  • Hot chocolate or coffee to drink during your shoot.
  • Why not add your pets too – they are normally up for a cuddle in colder weather.

As long as everyone is warm, you will be able to have fun and I will capture beautiful moments with your family.

Winter Weddings

Photography has been a beloved pastime of mine for years, and for the last 6 years, my full-time career and dream come true. After years of being a Social worker and working in high-stress situations, I decided to pick up my camera full time. I enjoy looking for beauty in unexpected places. My passion is to deliver beautiful images that tell your story.

Every story is beautiful

Every moment is precious and I would love to be able to tell your story.

The Girl Behind The Camera

When I am not behind the camera you will find me browsing street markets or devouring large amounts of dark chocolate and coffee with friends. I love my Labrador Retriever puppy, named Faith ( 4 years still count as a puppy ? ). She is part of Guide Dog Association of South Africa. Definitely, a life-changing moment when you see how a puppy, that is now grown up, become the eyes of someone that cannot see. It changed how I view my world – and how I look at the world I see through my lens.
