Getting everyone ready and looking good is probably one of the most challenging aspects of a photo shoot.
Try to remember why you wanted to do the photo shoot – capturing special moments, celebrating a milestone or remembering loved ones.
If you have any questions, I would love to assist you.
Everyone does not have to match but colour coordinate or colour block your family’s outfits. For example, choose 2 colours, add a basic colour of white, grey or blue and then use shades of those 3 colours to dress up.
Do not be scared to add a bold colour for fun, like a couple of yellow balloons, or red strawberries. Remember to keep in mind the tones of the colour pallet – warm | cold | pastel etc.
Bring the right shoes – you might need to walking fast or hike up a hill.
Patterns are great but not everyone in the photo should wear patterns as it may distract from the final image. Avoid large logos, animation characters & graphics. Remember to stick to the same season.
Accessorize your outfit to add detail to the images. Textures are also a great way to make the image interesting.
A shoot can be rescheduled if the weather is very bad, or a child is ill. Especially in the case of children, do not schedule the shoot to close after a medical procedure – even an injection.
Happy children make for greater family photos than clean ones. Prepare the kids. I aim to make the shoot fun, so please help me to help them to have fun. Bring along favourite toys or special family past time items as props.
I have worked with this timeline numerous times in the past and know it works very well but I love that each wedding is unique. So please add your personal touch to your special day.

I am more than happy to talk you through all the smaller details so just give me a call if you have any concerns.
One of the most frustrating and often stressful times for couples is their family photographers during the wedding day There is the small window of opportunity for these photos. These can be done beautifully and with little stress, if planned well beforehand.
Help me to help you. Quick but beautiful images of family members during a 10-30 minute time frame.
Please send your family photo list a week in advance to me as well as one person of each family to help gather the family combinations. It always helps if the MC can help with arrangements and gathering of big groups.

The last few days it has been freezing. When I schedule family shoots, it is always something to consider if we are shooting outdoors. No one wants to get sick after a photoshoot. So if you are hiding from the cold like me, perhaps consider a cosy indoor photo shoot with your family.
According to my google dictionary, cosy refers to warmth and shelter especially in a small space; “a cosy nook near the fire”; “snug in bed”; “a snug little apartment”...

As long as everyone is warm, you will be able to have fun and I will capture beautiful moments of your family.

Hi, I am Marissa. Thanks for your interest in The Girl With The Camera. I am one of many options you can choose from but my aim is to make your day memorable – even if I have to run around in the rain, help to set up tables or making a joke to help everyone to relax.
I use to work in a high-stress environment as a social worker before taking up my photography hobby as my day job. Helping the bride to stay came, comes as second nature to me if the florist got the dates wrong for your wedding or if the cake collapsed on a very hot summer day. (Not that we are planning any of these things for your wedding day). I walk the extra mile to get a beautiful image, literally. If I know that a different angle will give me the perfect angle I will stretch out the window as far as I can or walk through a river to get it for you. (I do have a bit of an issue with hights, but I trained my assistance well – they know what to do to keep me calm).
My hobby became my day job more than 5 years ago. I am loving every minute of being The Girl behind the camera and that is how – The Girl With The Camera – got to see the light.
I believe your wedding photographer must be someone exceptional. They have a few hours to capture your once in a lifetime moment that took you years of dreaming, months of planning and weeks to ensure perfection.
I guarantee that you will have your electronic images 2-3 weeks after your wedding date.
I love to capture beauty in unexpected places.
“Booking The Girl With The Camera was such a wonderful experience, and she made us feel right at home in front of the camera.”
As with anything you can buy, there’s a good, better and best version. Think shoes: Do you like Jimmy Choo Shoes or a street side flip-flop? Make sure you find the JCS of wedding photographers to fit your style. You will always find a photographer more expensive and you will always find a cheaper one too.
A picture is worth a thousand words… this refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image or that an image conveys its meaning or essence more effectively than a description does. Well, at least that is true for those of us who are not writers. Choosing your wedding photographer will determine how you remember a lot of the detail of your wedding in a big way. Your photographer’s view and approach will influence how your story will be told. You will probably look back on your wedding day years from now and when you look at your album, you should still be smitten with your photos. So the question I ask is will those photos resemble your wedding day in the finest detail?

My style has been described as light, airy, and whimsical. I have a very relaxed approach on the day, and I love shooting natural images and moments for the most part. Together with a few minutes of more formal photography for the family and bridal party photos, I like to make this as brief and enjoyable as I can! An Engagement shoot is a perfect time to get comfortable in front of the camera, your photographer and also to check out the images afterwards...
If you love your photos it will be worth every cent you spend on them. I am not suggesting taking out a loan to hire a wedding photographer. I am suggesting that you do some research, ask around and choose a photographer who you will be comfortable with on your wedding day. Technically the photographer might be good but if you are not comfortable with the person it can show in the photos. I love searching for beautiful moments. As a photographer, I love to prove that life is beautiful by looking for unique moments at every wedding I get to capture. This gives me the pleasure of saying I do not have one favourite wedding – but rather favourite moments of each wedding.
Your wedding is unique and important and you want a photographer that thinks the same way and doesn’t just pile you in with one of the 100 brides they’re photographing that year. I shoot every wedding myself, as well as editing your wedding to designing your wedding album. If you do not receive a reply to your email immediately be sure to know I will respond as soon as possible. I love my work and take pride in making sure my clients are happy every step of the way.
While you are on honeymoon you will be able to view a few photos on my website and Facebook page. My brides receive their electronic images in 2-3 weeks after their wedding together with their album design, excluding weddings in December. December weddings will receive their images and album design in January.

Your wedding album is the first family heirloom that you’ll pass on to your children and grandchildren and will be in your family’s homes for generations to come. Rather invest in high-quality prints or albums later if you cannot afford it now. Most photographers will be glad to design your album even if it a few years down the line. You receive the design with your photos electronically. We discuss the design and if you are happy with the design, I send it to the printers. It will then takes between 3 – 6 weeks before you can collect your album. No albums will be printed without your final thumbs up. In a standard album, you can use around 60-100 images to tell your story. Take these points into consideration when looking at a sample album.

Apart from the umbrellas, raincoats, an extra pair of shoes (which a bride actually borrowed) and wedding-day emergency kit, I carry my camera bag, ladder, and sometimes even a chair with me on your wedding day. Not only do I need one camera, but also lenses, tripods, memory cards, batteries, a backup camera, lights, flashes and gadgets to take with me to every wedding. One of the reasons I need to have an assistant with me on your wedding day is to help me with all the gear. You can give all the same equipment to someone who has little professional experience and they may take one or two nice shots. However, a professional photographer with years of experience will take a whole album worth of stunning shots that tell a story.
This is what you are paying for. Someone with years of experience, someone you can trust to make the most of your wedding day. My work is not done when the wedding day is over as I then have the responsibility of choosing the best quality photos and making adjustments where necessary.
Quite often I glance around to see the reactions on peoples’ faces during the day, and I love to capture the teary eyes or the big, heartfelt smiles. I also enjoy capturing the beauty in the details, whether it’s the lace on a bride’s dress or beautiful flowers – it’s so important to preserve these special details you took months to plan!
I love to wait for great moments. Waiting for you to lock eyes after the first kiss as Mr & Mrs, or the bride glancing in the mirror after getting dressed or the family congratulating you after the service.
My style is light, airy, fine art wedding photography. I have a very relaxed approach on the day, and I love shooting natural images and moments for the most part. Together with a few minutes of more formal photography for the families and bridal party, but I like to make this as brief and enjoyable as I can! When the sun has left the celebrations it is time to take out the flash – I love getting creative with a few shots of the newly married couple after dark with some additional light to add to the romantic atmosphere.
I love searching for beautiful moments. As a photographer, I love to prove that life is beautiful by looking for unique moments at every wedding. This gives me the pleasure of saying I do not have one favourite wedding – but rather favourite moments of each wedding. There are no cookie cutter weddings.
Happy wedding planning
Even though wedding makeup is usually very simple and neutral, it’s one of the hardest makeup looks to create, since it has to be PERFECT. Makeup should last all day, through all the crying, hugging, kissing, eating and dancing.
